Position Overview:
The Certified Surgical Technologist operates as a vital member of the surgical team, ensuring a sterile and safe environment in the operating room. Under the guidance of the surgeon and registered nurse, this role is essential in facilitating surgical procedures while prioritizing patient safety. The individual must have a comprehensive understanding of surgical techniques, human anatomy, and the effective use of surgical instruments and technologies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or a recognized military surgical technologist program
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist
Preferred:
- At least one year of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care operating room setting
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the preparation of case carts according to established preference cards, accurately interpreting these cards for the procurement of necessary instruments and supplies.
- Maintain clear communication with operating room personnel and sterile processing staff to coordinate instrumentation for both scheduled and unscheduled surgical cases.
- Review the daily surgical schedule with the charge nurse and sterile processing coordinator to identify potential delays and scheduling conflicts.
- Manage core phone communications, delegating tasks appropriately and coordinating breaks and lunches for team members.
- Act as a resource for Surgical Services and Sterile Processing Departments regarding the acquisition of supplies and instruments for surgical procedures.
- Collaborate with materials management to oversee supply usage and distribution.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, and pull weights up to 50 pounds, assisting with patient needs and equipment.
- Capability to work extended hours, including sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.
- Willingness to work beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
- Availability for on-call duties to address organizational and patient needs promptly.
- Proficient in effective communication, both in person and through various technologies.
- Ability to manage challenging situations, including de-escalating conflicts with upset individuals.
- Capacity to perform repetitive tasks as required by job responsibilities.
