About the Job:
Patient Care Technician (PCT)The Patient Care Technician performs patient-centered, evidence-based nursing care activities to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of patients. As a collaborative member of the care team, they are responsible for patient outcomes that meet the high quality of care provided by ThedaCare.
This role contributes to the goals of the department by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate, safe care and demonstrating commitment to continuous growth and professional development.
Responsibilities:
- Performs delegated patient care activities using evidence-based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served.
- Checks patients' vital signs, height, and weight as needed based on patient type.
- Provides compassionate care and listens to patients' concerns, guiding them by answering any questions or concerns.
- Identifies and escalates changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis.
- Collections clinical data and information on patients and reports to the care team.
- Repositions, transfers, ambulates, and transports patients.
- Assists patients with basic needs such as hygiene, eating, using the restroom, and dressing.
- Obtains and reports patient intake and output.
- Performs electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed.
- Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection.
- Provides care that is age appropriate, culturally specific, and developmentally appropriate in an environment that promotes patient safety.
- Demonstrates professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families, team members, and providers.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED preferred
- Must be 18 years of age required (except for Peabody Manor, The Heritage, or Juliette Manor)
- Previous healthcare experience preferred
- American Heart Association HealthCare Provider Life Support (BLS)
Physical Demands:
- Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
- Job classification is exposed to bloodborne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
Work Environment:
- Clinical, Patient Facing: Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments, occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- Occasional high noise level in work environment, possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents, occasional contact with aggressive and combative patients.
Estimated Salary Range: $38,000 - $45,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
