Position Overview: The Safety and Security Specialist is tasked with upholding all regulations, policies, and statutes as mandated by the Safety and Security Division.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complies with all organizational policies and operational guidelines.
  • Implements all sanctioned laws, rules, and standards.
  • Safely transports individuals using company vehicles.
  • Conducts regular patrols of designated areas, remaining vigilant for disturbances, fire hazards, safety issues, traffic violations, suspicious activities, and other irregular conditions.
  • Provides assistance to visitors, students, and staff as needed.
  • Maintains logs for student attendance and movement within the facility.
  • Performs security and safety inspections of the premises.
  • Conducts authorized searches and health inspections of visitors, staff, and students when necessary.
  • Addresses complaints and initiates preliminary investigations.
  • Offers escort services as required.
  • Investigates incidents involving vehicles on the premises.
  • Issues visitor credentials and temporary vehicle permits.
  • Engages in the disciplinary process as per established protocols, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for violence and substance abuse.
  • Participates in mandatory training sessions.
  • May provide temporary coverage in areas occupied by students, such as dormitories and recreational spaces.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Essential: High school diploma or equivalent; valid state driver's license.

Desirable: Three to six months of experience in a security-related role; Class B license with passenger/air brake endorsement preferred.

Knowledge Requirements: Familiarity with crowd management techniques; understanding of law enforcement protocols; valid state driver's license; ability to obtain a bus driver's license; must maintain CPR/First Aid certification; awareness of issues affecting underprivileged and minority youth; strong writing and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent: Sitting, standing, seeing, hearing, speaking.

Occasional: Walking, bending, stooping, squatting, flexibility.

Seldom: Climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, kneeling, pushing/pulling, running, driving.

Environmental Considerations:

Equipment: Proficient in operating office machinery.

Work Environment: Occasionally works independently; collaborates with others 85% of the time.

Reading and Writing: Capable of reading and writing at a college level.

Compensation:

Hourly Rate: $17.20.
