Job Summary

As a Public Health Nurse with the Tulsa Health Department, you will play a critical role in protecting the community from vaccine-preventable diseases. Your primary responsibility will be to provide education and immunization services to clients, assessing their immunization status and administering vaccines as needed. You will also educate clients and community groups on disease prevention through immunization, providing them with the knowledge and resources they need to stay healthy.

Key Responsibilities

Interview clients to determine their immunization needs and provide education on disease prevention
Administer vaccines to clients, including infants, children, and adults
Maintain and perform quality assurance of inventory of biologics and supplies
Provide clients with referrals to ensure their healthcare needs are met
Triage telephone calls from professionals and community members regarding immunizations, vaccine safety, and vaccination requirements for international travel

Requirements

Associate degree in nursing required, baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred
Two years of experience as a professional nurse preferred, previous nursing experience in pediatrics and/or immunizations preferred
Knowledge and technical ability to administer injections to all age groups
Assess physical needs and good interpersonal skills in interaction with infants, children, adults, other staff, and outside agencies

Working Conditions

Occasional exposure to communicable diseases, combative and resistive children, and sticks from needles or lancets. Noisy work environment, close quarters, and high-volume clinic may lead to stressful conditions.
