Job Overview

Salary: $17 per hour

The VPK Educator plays a vital role in fostering a supportive and engaging educational atmosphere for young children. This position is essential for nurturing the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of preschool-aged learners. The VPK Educator is expected to uphold a high standard of educational programming while building meaningful connections with students and their families. Demonstrating exemplary role model characteristics in all interactions is crucial, as is embodying the mission and core values of Discover After School.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver outstanding service to students, families, colleagues, and school administration.
  • Engage in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively.
  • Communicate in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Maintain comprehensive records in accordance with licensing standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Follow all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Exemplify positive behavior and guide children towards responsible conduct.
  • Complete all required training within specified timeframes.
  • Execute the daily curriculum and schedule while providing weekly feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of 45 hours of DCF Child Care Training.
  • Possession of a CDA (Child Development Associate) credential.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Passing drug screening results.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Essential Skills:

  • Expertise in lesson planning.
  • Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
  • Effective behavior management strategies.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Capacity to communicate effectively with both children and administrative staff.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills for daily challenges.

Compensation: $17.00 per hour, with bi-weekly pay.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
