The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Psychiatrist to join our dedicated team within the Substance Abuse Residential Treatment Program (SARRTP) and Outpatient Substance Use Disorder (SUD) clinic.

This role involves performing comprehensive evaluations for psychiatric conditions, substance abuse issues, alcohol dependency, social factors, and related medical concerns in both residential and outpatient environments.

Utilizing a variety of treatment approaches, including psychotropic medications, individual therapy, and group therapy, you will provide essential care aimed at addressing the full spectrum of clinically necessary treatment and rehabilitation services for patients struggling with SUD.

Our treatment framework includes:

  • Ambulatory withdrawal management
  • Evidence-based addiction-focused pharmacotherapy
  • Psychosocial interventions targeting the psychological and behavioral aspects of addiction
Key Information:
Work Schedule: Standard hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. There may be a future requirement for evening or weekend clinics, but a consistent 40-hour work week will be maintained.
Incentives: A sign-on bonus may be available for qualified candidates.
Loan Repayment: Eligible candidates can apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program.
Academic Opportunities: You may apply for an academic appointment at KUMC.
Call Duties: Telephone consultations on weekdays and in-person on weekends, with a frequency of 1-in-12.
Team Composition: The department consists of approximately 12 psychiatrists, 18 psychologists, 30 social workers, 2 advanced practice nurses, 2 licensed marriage and family therapists, 2 licensed professional counselors, and 15 registered nurses.
Continuing Medical Education: A stipend of $1,000 per year for reimbursement and one week of paid authorized absence (subject to availability) for CME activities.
Office Environment: Private office space will be provided.
Workload: The role involves 2/3rd residential rehabilitation in a 28-bed unit and 1/3rd outpatient SUD clinic responsibilities, along with administrative and teaching duties.
