ROLE SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Nuclear Medicine Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing diagnostic PET/CT and CT imaging procedures along with associated tasks. This role involves collaboration with the Medical Director and Supervisor on technical matters, equipment efficiency, and quality assurance. Adherence to the compliance program and ethical standards is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Conducting diagnostic PET/CT or CT imaging procedures, which encompass the injection of radiopharmaceuticals and/or IV contrast, oral contrast administration, protocol configuration, patient positioning, image reconstruction, filming, network image transfers, and data archiving.
  • Assisting in scheduling procedures and related administrative tasks to facilitate efficient workflow.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of patient demographic details, report distribution, and patient records.
  • Supporting the collection of clinical data for patient follow-up and the creation of educational materials.
  • Implementing safety measures for both patients and self in line with established standards. Performing daily quality control checks to assess scanner performance.
  • Reporting any equipment malfunctions or service needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Managing patient data and imaging files, including printing, archiving, retrieval, network data transfers, and tracking of loaned or requested films.
  • Understanding contraindications related to IV contrast administration, recognizing potential reactions, and knowing the appropriate response procedures.
  • Ordering necessary office and medical supplies, including printing and archiving materials.

Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or from an accredited program, or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program with PET/CT certification. A minimum of three to five years of experience in nuclear medicine and/or prior PET experience is preferred. Familiarity with patient scheduling and billing systems is required. Certification as a CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) and/or ARRT (N) along with state licensure where applicable is necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands of this position necessitate a full range of motion, including manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for the operation and maintenance of departmental equipment. The role involves lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds, maneuvering patients in wheelchairs/stretchers weighing up to 300 pounds, and maintaining appropriate positioning for equipment operation. The ability to reach above shoulder height, sit or stand for extended periods, and possess corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The characteristics of the work environment include regular exposure to patients, with potential risks associated with blood, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions typical of a clinical setting.
