About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Sarasota County team as a Signs and Markings Technician (Entry-Level). As a key member of our Public Works department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and beauty of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Locate and install traffic signs and other apparatus in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Fabricate and install signs, posts, delineators, barricades, cones, and raised pavement markers.
  • Install traffic control signs on roadways, adhering to MUTCD guidelines.
  • Load and deploy cones and barricades, ensuring efficient traffic management.
  • Program and deploy message boards and arrow boards, providing critical information to drivers.
  • Clean, repair, replace, and maintain existing signs and other traffic control devices, ensuring optimal visibility and functionality.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of materials on the work truck, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Complete tree trimming to aid in sign visibility, adhering to FDOT Vegetation Control for Safety guidelines.
  • Ensure proper record keeping in the Cartegraph work order management system, facilitating asset management and tracking.
  • Review the work queue daily, addressing citizen requests and concerns in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in construction or maintenance and repair.
  • Must successfully complete the International Municipal Sign Association (IMSA) sign and road markings course Level I within one year from the date of hire.
  • Must successfully complete the International Municipal Sign Association (IMSA) sign and road markings course Level II within two years from the date of hire.
  • Must successfully complete Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) within six months from the date of hire.
  • A valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire.
