Position Title: Teacher Assistant, Head Start Long Term Substitute
Role Summary: The Teacher Assistant is tasked with creating a nurturing educational atmosphere that fosters the growth and development of children in alignment with their age and developmental milestones. This role involves collaborating closely with the Lead Teacher and Site Team to support the educational journey of each child while enhancing parental involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attendance: Consistent presence and punctuality are crucial to ensure stability in the daily operations of the program.
Program Responsibilities:
- Educators are required to be trained as mandated reporters and must report any concerning observations to the appropriate authorities.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of Head Start and SENDCAA, including Standards of Conduct, Naptime, Outdoor Play, and Mealtime protocols.
- Engage in relevant training opportunities, including staff meetings and reflective supervision sessions.
Educational Duties:
- Maintain a thorough understanding of Head Start Performance Standards and the Early Learning Outcomes Framework.
- Actively participate in the implementation of behavior management plans.
- Familiarize oneself with and execute school readiness objectives.
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to effectively implement the Creative Curriculum for Preschool.
- Participate in coaching sessions with the Teacher Coach and Education Coordinator to foster positive learning environments.
- Implement Conscious Discipline strategies effectively.
- Assist in documenting each child's participation and developmental progress through regular observations.
Classroom Management:
- Support the maintenance and organization of classroom materials and supplies.
- Assist the Lead Teacher with daily planning and classroom activities.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment.
Family Engagement:
- Honor and respect the cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of each family.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child's development under the guidance of the Lead Teacher.
- Encourage family and volunteer participation in classroom activities.
Health and Safety Practices:
- Model healthy practices, including hygiene routines.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide substitute coverage for the Lead Teacher as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Occasional travel to different sites may be required.
Qualifications:
- Preschool Child Development Associate Credential or an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
- CPR and First Aid certification required within three months of hire.
- Completion of Mandated Reporting Interactive Training within three months of hire.
Experience and Skills:
- A minimum of one year of experience in an early childhood setting.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for young children.
- Effective communication skills with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Capability to work independently under general supervision.
- Support team efforts and actively learn from peers.
- Adhere to confidentiality and protocol guidelines in communications.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
Working Conditions: The role typically involves a positive working environment with moderate noise levels from children.
Physical Requirements: The position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, and engaging with children. The ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds is necessary.
