This role is situated within the Nutrition and Food Service (N&FS) of the Veterans Health Administration, acting as a pivotal Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) Associate. The position entails delivering administrative and customer service assistance for the food service operations within the healthcare facility.

This opportunity is available to current permanent employees of the Veterans Health Administration.
Key Responsibilities
Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Possessing comprehensive knowledge of modified diets, diet modifications, and dietetics software.
- Managing patient meal service requests via in-person or telephonic communication.
- Engaging with Veterans, dietitians, nursing personnel, and other healthcare staff.
- Receiving and processing patient meal orders and dietary preferences from nursing and clinical teams.
- Taking necessary actions to enhance patient satisfaction with meal services.
- Completing menu selections as required.
- Retrieving computerized data to support meal delivery processes.
- Providing education regarding local therapeutic diets to patients and staff.
- Assisting patients in selecting appropriate food options based on their dietary needs.
- Performing clerical and administrative tasks to support the service.
- Executing other related responsibilities as assigned.
Position Description: Health Technician (Dietetic)
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selected candidates may be subject to drug screening prior to appointment.
- Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Probationary period may be required.
- Background/security investigation may be necessary.
- Completion of an online onboarding process is required.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all healthcare personnel.
- Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements is necessary.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements.
To qualify at the GS-5 level, applicants must meet one of the following:
- Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level, involving food service in a healthcare setting, knowledge of tray assembly procedures, and effective communication skills.
- Education: A bachelor's degree or four years of education above high school in relevant fields.
- Combination: A combination of post-high school education and specialized experience.
