Welder Specialist

Job Summary:
The Welder D position at Stronghold Specialty, Ltd is responsible for performing various welding tasks in a petrochemical/refinery environment. This role requires a high level of physical fitness and the ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme temperatures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits.
- Perform precision measurement, layout, drilling, sawing, cutting, welding, turning, milling, and precision grinding safely.
- Operate various welding processes, including SMAW.
- Follow blueprints and layout specifications.
- Use jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
- Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes.
- Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to ensure specifications are met.
- Verify conformance of work pieces to specification using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
- Tack-weld fitted parts together.
- Apply principles of basic welding fundamentals.
- Identify proper welding consumables and fluxes for a selected process.
- Write routine reports and correspondences.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
This role operates in a petrochemical/refinery environment, exposing the employee to cold and hot working conditions, noise, and hazardous chemicals. The use of a respirator is required in emergency situations, and the employee must be fit-tested for various respirators and pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).
Physical Demands:
The Welder D position requires a high level of physical fitness, including the ability to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, and hand strength and dexterity. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 51 pounds. The role also requires the ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and on narrow, uneven, irregular, slippery surfaces.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent work experience or 6 months related work experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Knowledge of SMAW and other welding processes is also necessary. Petrochemical/refinery experience is preferred.
