Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Associate to join our team at the Humane Society of Summit County. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for providing daily care and attention to our shelter animals, ensuring their health, safety, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of shelter areas, kennels, cages, and public spaces, adhering to cleaning and disease control protocols.
  • Feed and provide daily enrichment to shelter animals in a safe and effective manner.
  • Read and interpret animal care signage and accurately follow care instructions.
  • Conduct animal laundry and dishes throughout the day.
  • Follow all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for staff and living environment for animals.
  • Stock areas and spot-clean kennels and public spaces throughout the day.
  • Promptly move animals (adoption, isolation, quarantine, etc.) as instructed.
  • Keep supervisor informed of animal behavior, health, or other concerns.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment, tools, and appliances.
  • Provide professional visitor, staff, and volunteer care, with the highest standards of customer care and service.
  • Conduct adoptions, provide adoption counseling/selection assistance, accurately enter computer data, and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Educate clients on responsible animal guardianship and animal care.
  • Assist with accepting in-kind donations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older to apply.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Entry-level, no experience required. Training is provided.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Positive attitude.
  • Passion for working with animals.
  • Ability to handle physically demanding work.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with animals, cleaning agents, and chemicals.
  • Knowledge of animal breeds, behavior, handling, and safe restraint methods.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow instructions.
