Job Title: Materials Engineer

Volt is seeking a skilled Materials Engineer to join our team in a remote opportunity with a client located in Bellevue, WA.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Materials Engineer to provide technical expertise in materials selection, processes, and requirements for reactor development programs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in materials science and engineering, with a focus on nuclear reactor materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interface with project teams to provide material selection, processes, and requirements for reactor development programs.
  • Perform scientific analysis of reports and test data, and generate technical specifications to document new knowledge related to reactor design and qualification.
  • Oversee test programs designed to develop an understanding of complex mechanical phenomena in sodium cooled fast reactor plant materials such as steel alloys.
  • Provide materials engineering support for the procurement of engineered components and systems, including leading technical development of suppliers to increase technology readiness level of key components.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience with a B.S. degree; or an advanced degree with related experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience in materials development, testing, and characterization for a nuclear reactor environment is desirable.
  • Experience qualifying materials for service in highly regulated applications is preferred.
  • Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) is preferred.
  • Experience developing material processing specifications, evaluating material selections, and reviewing vendor material definitions.
  • An understanding of complex mechanical phenomena in high-temperature systems.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork.
