Position Overview

Moraine Park Technical College is seeking applications for a temporary Security Officer role. This position is essential for ensuring the safety and security of the campus environment, focusing on loss prevention, safeguarding students, staff, and the public, conducting investigations, and managing parking enforcement.

Compensation: $18.28

Work Environment: On Campus

Working Hours: Monday - Thursday, either 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM or 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, depending on the college's requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the campus to ensure the safety and security of facilities. Engage with students, employees, and relevant agencies regarding security matters.
  • Conduct regular patrols to observe behaviors and provide a reassuring security presence. Monitor surveillance systems as directed by supervisors and document all relevant observations and incidents.
  • Uphold Moraine Park Technical College's policies and procedures related to security and safety.
  • Assist in investigating breaches of college security and safety protocols, including conducting on-site accident investigations when necessary.
  • Support investigations related to violations of state laws and municipal regulations occurring on college property.
  • Facilitate access to buildings, offices, and classrooms as needed.
  • Offer assistance to students, staff, and the public, including personal escorts and basic first aid.
  • Contribute to the college's crisis response initiatives.
  • Perform mandatory inspections of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of relevant experience in security or emergency services.
  • Proven ability to de-escalate potentially threatening situations verbally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with users, colleagues, and management.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with diverse populations.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism, with a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Experience working with diverse groups, fostering an inclusive environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field.
  • Experience in investigative reporting.
  • Familiarity with electronic surveillance systems.

Any combination of the above qualifications that demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

Work Environment:

  • Physical demands include working in various environments such as laboratories and workshops, with moderate noise levels and exposure to both indoor and outdoor conditions.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to various college and partner locations.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting weights up to 80 lbs. with appropriate mechanical assistance.
  • Capability to stand or walk for extended periods and perform physical movements such as bending and crawling.
