Job Description

Overview

K2 Space is seeking a highly skilled Satellite Mechanical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design and development of our spacecraft's photovoltaic (PV) assemblies. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the detailed design and analysis of the PV assembly, participating in solar array build process trades, defining development test campaigns, and producing our first full development arrays.

Responsibilities

  • Design and Development: Bring PV assemblies through design, qualification, and on-orbit operations to meet internal and external stakeholder needs.
  • Conductor and Interconnection Design: Refine the design and layout of solar array conductors and their interconnections.
  • Performance Evaluation: Evaluate the performance of PV systems, including light current and voltage, and electroluminescence testing.
  • Process Development: Participate in process development for the assembly and handling of large solar arrays.
  • Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to deliver critical components for the PV assembly.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Impact: Understand multi-disciplinary impacts while performing hardware trades within a cross-functional team.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience with electromechanical design and analysis.
  • Skills: Experience with CAD or FEA software packages.

Nice to Have

  • Design and Testing Experience: Experience designing, building, and testing mechanical assemblies for aerospace applications.
  • Solar Array Experience: Familiarity with terrestrial or spacecraft solar arrays.
  • Flexible Structures Experience: Experience with flexible polymeric and/or composite laminate structures as well as associated adhesive processes.
  • Flexible Circuit and Harness Experience: Familiarity with flexible circuit and harness assemblies.
  • GD&T Experience: Experience with the practical application of GD&T.
  • Hardware Ownership: Demonstrated ability to own mechanical hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $160,000 + equity in the company.
