San Francisco, California, United States Equinix, Inc. Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Infrastructure Architect to join our team at Equinix, Inc. As a key member of our Edge Infra team, you will be responsible for driving the innovation, design, implementation, and improvement of large-scale systems with critical uptime requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive execution of at least one major product area, including designing and implementing large-scale systems with critical uptime requirements.
  • Closely collaborate with other leadership, product management, and internal customers across Equinix on requirements and schedule.
  • Help directors and other managers staff projects with the right engineers.
  • Build an R&D culture, bootstrapping new solutions or dependencies as needed.
  • Foster an efficient build-it-and-run-it culture, blurring the lines between operations and development, reducing friction to fixing things that are broken.
  • Engage the global Equinix community internally and externally, with much of the work of the team freely available to the world through open-source.
Requirements
  • A broad background writing software, and operating production systems at scale, in various contexts, with specialties in modern cloud infrastructure and systems.
  • Experience with networked storage (iSCSI, NVMe-TCP, RoCE, NFS, object storage, and MPIO) and the ability to explain at a high level to a CEO while going deep with technical teams.
  • Networks aren't the network architects problem to solve, you're in deep with them, with comfort in MPLS, VXLAN, EVPN, DCB, PFC, and multicast.
  • Ability to write an operator in k8s or drop into the Linux kernel.
  • Strong opinions about the direction of cloud infrastructure, but holding them loosely and enjoying working with others to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Blurring the lines between development and operations, with the best team to debug a novel production problem being the team that wrote what's running.
  • Expertise in at least one programming language, proficiency with several others, and opinions about them all, with the ability to build good, modular abstractions and motivate engineers who are building production software.
  • Decision-making with data when available, and pushing for making it available when it isn't.
  • Effective communication through written English, as knowledge workers are effectively teachers and historians.
  • A servant leader, understanding that your team is successful because of you working to empower them and remove barriers.
What We Offer
  • A competitive salary range of $179,000 to $304,000 per year, depending on location.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including bonus and equity opportunities.
  • A dynamic and inclusive work environment, with opportunities for growth and development.
