Job Overview

VitalCore Health Strategies, a leading provider of correctional healthcare services, is seeking a part-time Psychiatrist to join our team at the Sussex Correctional Institution in Delaware.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

About the Role

The Psychiatrist will provide diagnostic evaluation and treatment to patients, as well as psychiatric consultation, diagnosis, and treatment to patients. They will also provide clinical direction, general supervision, and training to site staff, and have other managerial responsibilities.

  • Must be a graduate of medical school and have completed an appropriate psychiatric residency.
  • Must be licensed to practice in the state of Delaware and certified by the Office of Behavioral Health to provide psychiatric services in a licensed inpatient unit.
  • Current DEA number.
  • Maintain caseload and performance schedules such as peer review, clinical supervision, administrative meetings, and other administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities

The Psychiatrist will be responsible for:

  • Providing onsite psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of those inmates referred by the medical and clinical services staff.
  • Providing written summaries of history, diagnosis, and treatment course.
  • Where applicable, providing psychiatric services for inpatients, assessment, diagnosis, staffing, treatment planning, and regular review of all inmates assigned.
  • Where applicable, providing psychiatric services for all inmates referred to the Healthcare Unit for those inmates in the general population who need regular psychiatric/behavioral health follow-up.
  • Where applicable, providing psychiatric services for those inmates who need to be transferred to Behavioral Health facilities. Services to include work up and any court hearing testimony needed.
  • Acting as a regular Psychiatrist and participating in the treatment programming and planning for the Behavioral Health Unit (if applicable), including regular staffing and contact with Behavioral Health Unit staff and supervisor, discussion of problem cases, follow up and monitoring of medication, and general psychiatric input.
  • Providing medication management to all inmates admitted.
  • Providing individual and/or group therapy as appropriate.
  • Approving, signing, and monitoring the implementation and efficiency of treatment plans.
  • Approving all admissions and discharges into the Behavioral Health Unit, if applicable.
  • Providing in-service education to the site staff as needed.
  • Attending training and meetings as required.
