As a vital member of the Purchasing team, the Buyer operates under the guidance of the Purchasing Supervisor, ensuring that all procurement activities align with inventory requirements to support seamless business operations. This role is pivotal in facilitating timely order fulfillment by preparing and processing orders based on lead times and back orders. The Buyer is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels and vendor information within the necessary systems for effective reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and execute all procurement activities to support operational needs, including vendor management, inventory oversight, and auditing processes.
- Manage purchase orders in accordance with inventory requirements and fulfillment timelines.
- Monitor and resolve back order situations, ensuring all reporting is accurate and timely.
- Establish and nurture professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including vendors.
- Negotiate with vendors to secure favorable terms and explore alternative sourcing options.
- Maintain precise records in SAP, ensuring up-to-date vendor costs, lead times, and codes.
- Collaborate with various departments and vendors to assess lead times and other factors influencing procurement.
- Alert management to significant issues affecting inventory levels, vendor pricing, or order timelines.
- Track shipments and ensure timely deliveries, following up with vendors as necessary.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, proposing enhancements for efficiency in ordering processes.
- Process returns and debit memos to the appropriate departments or vendors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience in purchasing or a related field.
- High school diploma or GED.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of purchasing and inventory management best practices.
- Proven experience in process improvement.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Capability to prioritize tasks and manage workflow effectively.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with systems such as Microsoft Dynamics and SAP is preferred.
Physical Demands:
The physical requirements for this position include the ability to communicate effectively, stand, walk, sit, reach, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment:
This role is situated in a manufacturing and warehouse setting, where exposure to various conditions such as humidity, mechanical parts, and noise is common.
