Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and observations to identify areas where students may require additional or modified educational services.
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of each student, ensuring their activities and lessons are tailored to their abilities.
  • Teach engaging lessons to small groups and individual students, meeting the requirements of IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Monitor student progress, make necessary modifications, and ensure programs comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to local, state, and federal guidelines, laws, and regulations.
  • Stay up-to-date with special education teaching methods, research, and best practices through ongoing professional development and study.
  • Establish and enforce a classroom management structure that promotes academic engagement, physical, and mental safety for all students.
  • Supervise students in various settings, ensuring their safety and security.
  • Exercise confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the job, adhering to school and diocesan policies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
  • Current Pennsylvania Teaching Certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive matters and support students with intellectual, physical, and psychological disabilities.
  • Flexibility to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Clearances and Training

Prior to interview, candidates must provide clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check, as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014. Additionally, attendance at a Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training is mandatory.

Working Conditions

The Special Education Teacher will work in a normal classroom setting with regular working hours of 8:00AM - 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. Occasional work outside normal hours may be required to attend meetings, open houses, and workshops.
