Construction Projects Technician

We are seeking a skilled Electrician to join our Projects Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center. This role focuses on electrical work within the construction trades, requiring expertise in troubleshooting and performing a variety of crafts or trades independently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and work from diagrams, job specifications, or blueprints to ensure accurate electrical installations.
- Layout, install, and repair wiring, and electrical fixtures to meet safety and quality standards.
- Install various electrical systems and equipment, including distribution equipment, branch circuit equipment, lighting signs, Fire Alarm and indicators, and machinery tie-in.
- Safely and efficiently use hand and power tools to complete tasks efficiently.
- Plan new or modified installations to minimize material waste, ensure future maintenance access, and comply with electrical codes and job specifications.
- Provide daily progress reports to the supervisor regarding project status, including completion times, encountered difficulties, and remedial actions taken.
- Record daily work hours accurately to ensure timely payment and compliance with labor laws.
- Connect cables to equipment like motors and install grounding leads to ensure electrical compatibility and component safety.
- Test circuit continuity to ensure electrical compatibility and component safety.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using tools like conduit benders, and pull wiring through conduits.
- Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using tools to ensure safe and efficient electrical connections.
- Monitor the functioning of equipment or electrical systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- Preview, order, and obtain electrical materials and equipment to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Maintain cleanliness of tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Operate vehicles to transport self and materials to job sites to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Participate in collaborative meetings with Facilities Services and Design and Construction Management as needed to ensure effective communication and project coordination.
- Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with others to achieve common goals and ensure successful project outcomes.
Requirements:
- Technical or trade degree or 3 years of equivalent experience in electrical trades.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions to ensure accurate completion of tasks.
- Experience with understanding of voltage ranges from 24 to 600 volts to ensure safe and efficient electrical installations.
- Valid driver's license at the time of hire to ensure timely transportation to job sites.
- Ability to reach, grasp, hold, lift, and manipulate a variety of hand and power tools to ensure safe and efficient completion of tasks.
- Ability to perform work above normal heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures to ensure safe and efficient completion of tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy loads (up to 50 lbs) occasionally, with or without accommodation, to ensure safe and efficient completion of tasks.
- Willingness to work overtime if needed to ensure timely completion of projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification to ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Experience working with Fire Alarm Systems to ensure safe and efficient electrical installations.
- Experience working with Workday, Teams, and Outlook to ensure effective communication and project coordination.
- Experience working in a college or university setting to ensure familiarity with campus facilities and procedures.
