Position Summary:
Under the guidance of supervisory staff, this role is designed to execute semi-skilled tasks related to the installation and upkeep of municipal water and wastewater utility systems, pipelines, and associated apparatus. Responsibilities encompass the connection of fittings, excavation for the installation and repair of pipelines, monitoring and testing of water pressure, restoration of job sites, and all tasks pertinent to water and wastewater utilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consistent and punctual attendance at work.
- Repair and maintain water distribution and wastewater collection lines, manholes, meters, and related infrastructure while exercising caution around utilities such as electrical power, gas, and telecommunications.
- Conduct cleaning of sewer lines and manholes; replace damaged components; utilize sewer tape to clear blockages; operate sewer machinery to break up grease in lines.
- Operate and maintain various equipment including vehicles, jackhammers, pumps, air compressors, and other tools used in the repair and maintenance of water and sewer systems.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fire hydrants.
- Install and remove water meters along with associated responsibilities.
- Collect and test water samples.
- Complete work orders and all documentation related to job duties.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to execute general maintenance and repairs within the water and wastewater collection systems.
- Familiarity with basic tools and equipment.
- Understanding of relevant regulations and standards.
- Capacity to work effectively in diverse environments under extreme conditions.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with the public and fellow employees.
- Capability to pass necessary background checks, physical examinations, and drug/alcohol screenings.
- Ability to comprehend and follow clear instructions and directions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must successfully pass a background investigation, physical examination, and drug screening.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to obtain a valid commercial driver's license within one year of employment.
- Must acquire relevant certifications within specified timeframes.
- Maintenance of all required licenses and certifications is mandatory.
- Preferred: Three years of relevant experience.
Essential Position:
This role is critical for the provision of emergency services during and after disasters. Employees may be required to remain on duty during emergencies and are expected to be available for normal shifts and emergency recall unless specifically released by management.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- Must demonstrate sound judgment, make informed decisions, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and perform well under pressure.
- Ability to perform essential job functions, including lifting, operating tools, and performing strenuous physical activities.
- Must maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public at all times.
