Head Start Teacher I Position

Located at the Head Start Gum Springs Center in Alexandria, VA, we are seeking a qualified Head Start Teacher I to join our team. Key Responsibilities
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate practices and curriculum to meet the individual needs of children
• Create a play-based learning environment that promotes social, emotional, and cognitive growth
• Ensure compliance with Virginia State Licensing and Head Start Federal Standards to maintain a safe and healthy environment
• Collaborate with families, staff, and community members to support children's development and well-being
• Participate in staff development sessions, teacher meetings, and other professional activities to enhance your skills and knowledge
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education or a related field
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, and driving record check
• Knowledge of preschool Head Start standards, Creative Curriculum/Teaching Strategies (TS) Gold, and VA Department of Social Services (DSS) regulations in childcare facilities
• Experience working with diverse populations and ability to communicate effectively with families and staff
Physical Demands
The position requires regular standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to lift, transport, and position up to 50 pounds is also required. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this role.
