Job Summary

Chicago State University is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality education and care to young children in a university-operated daycare center, kindergarten, elementary, or high school setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit and enroll eligible children and families for the Dr. David Kanis Center, adhering to all recruitment activities, plans, and policies.
  • Participate in the planning process and development of program policies and plans.
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences and activities in language, math, science, gross motor, fine motor, and social/emotional development.
  • Develop and implement individualized activities for children, aligning with Early Learning Standards and supporting children's IEPs.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of children during indoor and outdoor activities, including field trips.
  • Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of children with diverse mental, physical, and emotional maturities.
  • Conduct ongoing observation and authentic assessment of children, maintaining documentation of each child's progress and growth using adopted assessment tools.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction designed to meet individual needs of children in all areas of development.
  • Participate in program self-assessment and community needs process.
  • Schedule and plan home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Document and maintain accurate daily attendance and food count.
  • Document and maintain daily health and safety checklists.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field with ECE coursework.
  • Professional Educator License (type 04) in Early Childhood or Illinois Gateway Level 5 ECE credential and working towards IL PEL with ECE endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of Head Start experience.
  • Knowledge of pre-school children between 3-5 years.
  • Preferred Head Start experiences.
Work Environment

Must be able to physically interact with children, including talk, hear, sit, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and or move items of up to 40 pounds.
