Job Summary

The Family Service Worker is a critical role in providing protective foster care and supportive services for abused or neglected children. As a member of the Arkansas Department of Human Services team, you will be responsible for investigating suspected child abuse and neglect complaints, developing case plans, and providing counseling and guidance to clients.

Key Responsibilities

* Investigate child abuse and neglect complaints, making on-site visits and interviewing parties involved
* Develop case plans to establish goals, objectives, tasks, and time frames for all parties involved in the case
* Provide counseling and guidance to clients, referring them to other professionals, agencies, services, or community resources as needed
* Recruit and train families, conduct home studies and family assessments to determine appropriate child placements, and visit clients and/or foster parents on a regular basis to monitor progress toward case objectives
* Document all case work activities and developments, preparing court reports for custody hearings and presenting testimony when necessary

Requirements

* The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or a related field
* Successful completion of a six-month training class within agency core training period
