Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join our team at Northwestern Medicine. As a key member of our Food and Nutrition Team, you will play a vital role in preparing high-quality food and meal items in a safe and sanitary manner.

Responsibilities
  • Measure, mix, and prepare ingredients according to approved recipes.
  • Demonstrate understanding and proper use of kitchen equipment, including blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, ovens, etc.
  • Prepare and present café, patient, and catering menu items according to recipes and standards.
  • Prepare and present salad bar and ingredients to standards, as necessary.
  • Maintain product levels, appearance, and cleanliness of work areas and service stations.
  • Observe infection control and HACCP practices at all times.
  • Maintain kitchen/station in safe and organized manner.
  • Serve food that is flavorful and appealing.
  • Only change ingredients or seasonings when directed by chef or culinary leader.
  • Consult with manager regarding handling of any leftovers.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent; or in lieu of high school diploma/GED, must have a minimum of 1 year relevant experience in any of the following: cooking, production, or food service.
  • Successful completion of Food Handler certification within 180 days of hire.
  • Preferred qualifications include six months healthcare cooking experience, completion of some culinary schooling, and basic knowledge of special diets.
