Under the guidance of the Center Director, the Culinary Specialist for Early Childhood Education is responsible for the daily preparation of nutritious meals for children, including infants, toddlers, preschool, and pre-kindergarten students, adhering to the standards set by Bright From the Start.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crafts high-quality meals using standardized recipes, with a focus on fresh ingredients and seasonal produce.
  • Ensures proper portioning and presentation of meals, maintaining optimal temperature and visual appeal.
  • Maintains comprehensive allergy lists for children, ensuring that dietary restrictions are respected and alternatives are provided.
  • Tastes all prepared dishes to ensure quality and flavor.
  • Upholds cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas, following strict hygiene protocols.
  • Safely stores or discards leftover food in accordance with food safety guidelines.
  • Keeps storage areas organized and ensures compliance with food storage standards.
  • Monitors cooling, dating, and storage of surplus food items.
  • Operates kitchen equipment safely and effectively, following manufacturer instructions.
  • Assists with production planning, record-keeping, and necessary reporting.
  • Participates in the ordering, receiving, and proper storage of food and supplies.
  • Reports maintenance needs or equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Engages in team meetings and collaborates effectively with colleagues, parents, and administration.
  • Adheres to safety protocols to maintain a clean and secure work environment.
  • Complies with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or GED, along with training in nutrition or food service, is required. Candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive background check. Experience in large-scale food preparation and inventory management is essential. Knowledge of nutrition, food safety, and sanitation practices is necessary. Candidates should be willing to obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification, Basic First Aid, CPR, and any other required training.

** Sign-on bonus structure: $200 after 90 days, $300 after 180 days, and $500 upon completing one year of service.
