Position Overview:

The Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations at a level 1 site. This position requires a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks to guarantee that all applicable requirements are recognized and adhered to. The specialist will plan, organize, and execute EHS initiatives while monitoring facility operations to ensure compliance with both regulatory and corporate standards.

Key Duties:

  • Data Analysis: Assess data to identify opportunities for proactive enhancements within the designated value stream and drive the execution of action plans.
  • Leadership and Support: Provide direction and assistance for the implementation and sustainability of compliance programs and EHS management processes, including ISO, OHSAS, and VPP.
  • Hazard Management: Spearhead the development and deployment of processes to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and formulate corrective actions for near misses, injuries, illnesses, and environmental incidents within the defined value stream.
  • Recordkeeping and Reporting: Oversee regulatory documentation, reporting, and case management activities as required.
  • Training Coordination: Facilitate and monitor training for all relevant personnel regarding health, safety, and environmental policies, practices, and regulatory standards.
  • KPI Management: Manage, document, and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the defined value stream.
  • Compliance Assurance: Direct all mandatory air, water, and waste compliance monitoring, inspections, and reporting activities.
  • Policy Alignment: Ensure that all activities align with Southwire's EHS policies and procedures.
  • Emergency Response Coordination: Act as the Emergency Response Coordinator, assisting in the coordination of emergency services and contractors, which includes being on call 24/7.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a Science-related field relevant to health, safety, and environmental disciplines.
  • A minimum of 9 years of experience in industrial health, safety, and environmental roles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations and standards (OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, NEC, etc.).
  • Professional certification is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours or shifts as necessary.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal abilities.
