Valparaiso Family YMCA is seeking a skilled Aquatic Educator to join our team. This part-time position offers an exceptional opportunity for individuals who are passionate about swimming and teaching children.
About the JobThis role supports the mission of the Valparaiso YMCA, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
- Salary: $12-$26 per hour (dependent on experience)
In this capacity, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all patrons in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. You will also positively engage with members, instruct, motivate, and utilize the pool to enhance members' experiences at our facility.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents required for the job.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete all necessary paperwork and record keeping in a timely manner
- Be prepared and relationship ready by having all equipment set up before class time begins and put away after class ends
- Spend adequate time in the water to develop participants to their fullest potential and providing exceptional instruction
- Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude when sharing site space, including maintaining an appropriate voice level and using space appropriately to class needs and site provisions
- Provide appropriate attention to class and participants and refrain from socializing with other personnel during class time
- Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having and using prepared lesson plans
- Use innovation and creativity to increase participant satisfaction
- Enforce safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pools and aquatic area
- Maintain a safe, clean, neat pool environment
- Adhere to work schedule and substitute for other Exercise Water Instructors when needed
- Perform regular equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed
Requirements:
- Minimum of 16 years of age
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents required
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
