Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Hospital Medicine Lead Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Hospital Medicine team as a Lead Advanced Practice Professional. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and strategic individual to lead our advanced practice team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the hospitalist advanced practice team at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor (SJMAA)
- Coordinate with the Division Head of Hospital Medicine, Practice Manager of Hospital Medicine, and SJMAA leadership to guide the APP service
- Promote professional growth, development, and successful performance of all Hospital Medicine Advanced Practice Professionals
- Support recruitment and orientation of new Hospitalist APPs
- Provide oversight for the timely and equitable completion and distribution of Hospitalist APP work schedules
- Attend monthly hospitalist team leadership meetings, monthly hospitalist meetings, monthly night provider meetings, and quarterly APP meetings
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and coaching in conjunction with the essential job functions as identified in the IHA Hospitalist APP position description
- Collaboratively design, implement, and monitor clinical processes and help build clinical teams with clear roles and expectations that support the delivery of outstanding patient care
- Act as liaison between hospitalist APP group, hospital leadership, and Trinity Health IHA Medical Group leadership
- Demonstrate the value of IHA Hospitalist APP program to SJMH and Trinity Health IHA Medical Group leadership
- Directly communicate effectively and in a timely manner with Hospitalist APPs to continually update, engage, and educate the hospitalist APP team
- Manage program operations in coordination with SMD, DH, and Practice Manager of Trinity Health IHA Medical Group, Hospital Medicine to build APP schedule to ensure service is fully staffed
- Supervise the overall activities of the Advance Practice Professionals on all the inpatient internal medicine services
- Conduct biannual provider performance evaluations, periodic coaching sessions, orientation programs, and improvement/teaching plans designed to maximize providers potential
- Conduct disciplinary actions, attendance review, provides feedback to APP staff
- In collaboration with the Practice Manager, coordinate APP student schedules
- Reviews patient complaints and adverse event reports (related to APPs) generated through reporting system, performs chart reviews when asked by DH, and shares with providers and IHA hospitalist leadership
- Meet regularly with leadership of STAT RN/RRT meeting
- Create a positive, professional, service-oriented work environment for staff, patients, and family members by supporting the IHA CARES mission and core values statement
- Must be able to work effectively as a member of the leadership team
- Successfully completes IHAs The Customer training and adheres to IHAs standard of promptly providing a high level of service and respect to internal or external customers
- Maintains knowledge of and complies with IHA standards, policies and procedures, including IHAs Employee Handbook
- Maintains strict patient and employee confidentiality in compliance with IHA and HIPAA guidelines
- Serves as a role model, by demonstrating exceptional ability and willingness to take on new and additional responsibilities. Embraces new ideas and respect cultural differences
- Uses resources efficiently
- If applicable, responsible for ongoing professional development - maintains appropriate licensure/certification and continuing education credentials, participates in available learning opportunities
Interested candidates must have three years of clinical experience in the inpatient setting with preferred prior experience in a leadership capacity; be board certified; and hold a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan; position is dependent upon successful credentialing at SJMAA. Membership in Society of Hospital Medicine is also required.
We are seeking an APP with strong personal communication skills, an appreciation of (or willingness to learn about) financial issues, and a strategic orientation towards customer service are prerequisites for success. In addition, an orientation towards collaboratively problem solving by including providers and staff in efforts to continually improve all areas of quality.
