Job Summary

The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. This includes operating CT scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of radiation safety and be able to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Essential Functions

  • Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient, referring and questioning orders to the Radiologist as necessary.
  • Properly identifies patients and assists them during procedures, providing a brief explanation of the process.
  • Interviews patients to obtain a complete medical history, reviewing EMR's to obtain pertinent clinical information.
  • Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion, preparing and administering IV contrast as needed.
  • Evaluates the technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if necessary, recognizing abnormal anatomy and processing additional images as instructed.
  • Performs basic patient care functions, informing nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition and initiating life support measures as needed.
  • Assists Radiologists and PAs during invasive procedures, practicing proper sterile technique and adhering to infection control policies.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer.
  • Adheres to hospital fire and safety procedures, attending in-service classes and completing required safety modules.
  • Rotates shifts as required, including call back, holidays, and weekends, and adheres to the Atrium Health attendance policy.

Physical Requirements

The CT Technologist I requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting are required during normal operation, and frequent stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling may be necessary in the daily operation of the CT department.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

A graduate of an accredited two-year AMA program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology is required, along with ARRT certification in Radiology, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, and advanced registry from the ARRT in CT scanning within one year of hire, as well as current CPR certification.
