Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team in Portsmouth, RI. As a Machinist at Vatn Systems, you will play a critical role in the development and production of components for our autonomous underwater vehicles. You will work closely with our engineering team to fabricate precision parts that are essential to the functionality and reliability of our AUVs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and maintain conventional and CNC machining equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, and other equipment frequently found in machine shops.
  • Weld parts in aluminum as needed.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints (GD&T notation) to manufacture components to exact specifications.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality and accuracy of machined parts through inspection and quality control procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to provide input on the manufacturability of components.
  • Assist with the assembly of our vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust machines as needed to ensure optimal performance.
  • Select the appropriate materials and tooling for each project.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Machinist with a strong background in precision machining.
  • Proficiency in operating and setting up both conventional and CNC machine tools.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of machining techniques and materials, including stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Detail Oriented.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.
  • A passion for innovative technology and a desire to contribute to the development of autonomous underwater vehicles.
