Fire Chief

Prince George County, VA is seeking a highly qualified Fire and EMS Chief to lead our department. As a key member of our public safety team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the operation of our Fire and EMS employees and volunteers.

• Plan and organize the overall delivery of fire suppression, emergency medical services, and other emergency services for the County.
• Manage emergency planning for all man-made and natural disasters and coordinate disaster and hazardous materials responses.
• Lead and direct the activities of volunteer and career personnel.
• Establish and maintain productive working relationships with volunteers, career personnel, government officials, and the public.
• Prepare technical and informative reports and present complex information to varied audiences.

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the department.
• Extensive experience in fire, emergency services, and/or emergency medical services.
• A minimum of five years of experience in a leadership position (Fire Captain or above) in Fire & EMS.
• Comprehensive knowledge of fire, EMS, emergency management, and disaster planning management.
• Proven management and administrative skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in emergency situations.

• Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification.
• Knowledge of the physical layout of Prince George County.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
