Histocompatibility Specialist

Job Summary

The Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking a highly skilled Histocompatibility Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory, you will be responsible for performing serologic and molecular procedures, including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and antibody screening. Your expertise will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our testing results, which are essential for determining donor-to-recipient compatibility for transplantation.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and stat HLA laboratory testing procedures, including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and antibody screening.
• Review and interpret final results, preparing reports as needed.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of testing procedures and results.
• Participate in the rotation of 24-hour emergency on-call responsibilities, performing crossmatching between deceased donors and organ transplant recipients.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a Life Science or Healthcare Program.
• Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience, preferably in histocompatibility and immunogenetics.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, requiring prolonged standing, sitting, and walking. The successful candidate will be able to lift up to 20-50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment with frequent and intense customer interactions.
