Key Responsibilities- Assist physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care to patients by performing phlebotomy, transporting patients, and obtaining lab specimens.
- Document information and procedures, and promptly communicate observations, concerns, and needs of patients to registered nurses.
- Process daily patient charges and related procedures through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Collaborate with physicians to support communications required to facilitate patient care.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, following department safety policies and standard precautions.
- Monitor equipment and troubleshoot minor problems, and arrange repair of major malfunctions.
- Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the TM practices, or
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license issued by the state in which the TM practices, or
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Intravenous license issued by the state in which the TM practices, or
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate license issued by the state in which the TM practices, or
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued by the state in which the TM practices, or
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
- High School Graduate.
- Typically requires 1 year experience.
- Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and their families.
- Ability to effectively manage time and priorities.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs over the head.
- Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
- Must be able to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
- Will be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuous basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and blood and body fluids.
- Will be required to wear gloves, goggles, and gowns on an as-needed basis.
- Must have functional sight and hearing.
