Key Responsibilities

Willdan is on the lookout for an Energy Efficiency Specialist to join our innovative and resourceful team. The Energy Efficiency Specialist will be instrumental in supporting and executing new construction energy efficiency initiatives. This role encompasses consulting on individual new construction projects and developing tools, energy efficiency measures, and delivery strategies to bolster these programs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collecting data necessary for analyzing energy-saving options through energy models.
  • Coordinating project timelines and meetings.
  • Managing the expectations of design teams and program managers.
  • Providing expert consultation and presenting findings to project teams, including owners, architects, and engineers.

Additionally, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with the technical support team on research, analysis, and the development of energy efficiency measures, strategies, and tools.
  • Integrate new insights into energy efficiency programs for new construction markets.
  • Assist in establishing internal policies and frameworks for project feasibility reports and workpapers that align with energy efficiency program requirements.
  • Conduct energy simulation analyses and deliver model results.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing energy modeling outcomes and design recommendations.
  • Effectively communicate energy conservation measures to both technical and non-technical team members to facilitate informed design decisions.
  • Partner with project managers to ensure high-quality results and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of regulatory policies governing energy efficiency programs.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of a 4-year degree in a technical field such as Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Construction Management, Building Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Knowledge of building design, construction processes, and/or building operations.
  • 1 to 5 years of proven experience with hourly simulation tools such as DOE-2, EnergyPlus, or IESVE, and building energy analysis, including interpreting complex information, performing cost/benefit analyses, and making strategic recommendations based on findings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and energy simulation support.
  • Previous experience in developing and supporting energy efficiency measures, strategies, and deliveries in investor-owned utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs.
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, physics, and mathematics.
  • Familiarity with energy codes and standards (ASHRAE 55, 62.1, 90.1, 189.1, IECC).
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect credentials or qualifications that enable licensure.
  • Any of the following industry-related certifications: Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), LEED Accredited Professional, Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP), Commissioning Authority (CxA).
