Role Summary:


The Yard Operator is tasked with maneuvering tractor trailers to and from loading docks and parking both loaded and empty trailers in designated zones.

This role involves transporting tractor trailers to offsite maintenance and inspection locations, requiring local driving within the city limits.

All driving activities must be conducted safely, adhering to all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

The Yard Operator is responsible for fueling, relocating, and parking tractors and trailers at the docks, ensuring that trailers are parked in the correct areas.

Attention to safety and careful driving within the facility's parking lot is essential.

Effective communication and professional interaction with colleagues and vendors are crucial to ensure that all services and responsibilities are executed according to preferred work methods and customer service standards.

This position requires functioning as a team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duties to best serve the company.


Key Responsibilities:
Conduct all necessary safety inspections (i.e.,

pre/post trip) including thorough checks of the tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; ensure that all vehicles meet company safety criteria and take appropriate actions as necessary.

Report any safety concerns or required repairs.
Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving safety protocols, promptly reporting any safety hazards.
Safely transport trailers to and from loading docks and designated parking areas.
Manage and return all necessary documentation related to offsite maintenance and inspection facility interactions.
Ensure that all tractors, trailers, and freight are securely locked and/or secured at all times.
Maintain cleanliness in the tractor, loading dock area, and ensure trailers are kept clear and tidy as required.
At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and complete all necessary documentation.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience

6-12 months of experience operating tractor trailers

Internal candidates may be eligible for promotion with less than 6 months of experience, provided they have a strong performance record and meet driver training program requirements where applicable.

Must be available to work scheduled shifts and required overtime.

Valid CDL A license

Must be at least 21 years old

Meet all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable)

Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years

Pass pre-employment drug screening

Pass road testing

Possess a valid current DOT Health Card or be able to obtain one
