Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Exhibition Designer to join our team at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As an Exhibition Designer, you will be responsible for designing special exhibitions, gallery projects, and gallery furnishings for the display of works of art.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design special exhibitions, major permanent collection re-installations, and gallery projects while working closely with museum staff.
  • Design and coordinate gallery lighting for exhibitions and gallery projects.
  • Manage the design and documentation process for exhibitions and re-installations.
  • Create technical drawings, plans, and three-dimensional models of objects and spaces.
  • Develop schedules for construction and object installation.
  • Manage budget expenses and time constraints related to exhibition design and production.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop a design that meets expectations and standards.

Requirements:

  • A high level of competence with AutoCAD, Illustrator, Photoshop, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Design training and experience.
  • Model making skills.
  • Project management experience with exhibition design and construction.
  • Strong preference for experience in gallery and/or theater lighting.
  • Understanding of conservation issues for works of art.
  • Four plus years' experience in a museum or similar setting desired.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary of $66,000.
  • Full-time, exempt position with 35 hours per week.
  • Part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit.
  • Reports to the Associate Director of Exhibition Design.
