This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our Single Family Operations team, focusing on legal counsel related to mortgage origination, insurance, servicing, and risk management. The position involves providing comprehensive legal support and advice to ensure compliance and effective operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties of this position include:
- Maintaining a thorough understanding of the Single-Family Seller/Servicer Guides and related contracts.
- Offering transactional guidance on due diligence for real estate transactions, including title reviews, leases, and zoning regulations.
- Providing legal insights on chattel lending programs.
- Advising on background check escalations for new lender applicants.
- Ensuring compliance with IRS tax-exempt bond program guidelines and other regulatory requirements.
- Supporting loan enforcement, servicing requests, and regulatory compliance as needed.
- Conducting legal research to support operational needs.
- Assisting with internal and external reporting obligations.
- Responding to third-party requests for information and documentation.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Juris Doctor degree and admission to the New York State bar, with additional state bar admissions considered advantageous.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in closing real estate secured transactions, including due diligence and mortgage documentation.
- Experience in subsidized lending and affordable housing programs.
- Familiarity with enforcement litigation is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
