The Dysart Unified School District is seeking a highly qualified Percussion Instructor to join our team. As an assistant to the high school Band Director, you will play a crucial role in the success of our high school marching band.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the planning and direction of the percussion unit for independent performance and competition.
- Coordinate rehearsals and sectionals to ensure students receive high-quality instruction.
- Develop and implement the visual design of the program, collaborating with drill writers and unit staff.
- Instruct percussion techniques, including basic to advanced rudiments and fundamentals.
- Manage audio engineering and sound design, ensuring high-quality sound for performances.
- Repair and maintain equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the Athletic Director, Band Director, Percussion Director, Band staff, and other stakeholders.
- Recommend new equipment purchases within budget allocations for Band Director approval.
- Consult with boosters, directors, and parents on percussion studies within the marching arts programs.
- High School Diploma or GED; higher education degree preferred.
- Experience in the marching arts, including DCI, WGI, and high school and college marching arts.
- Experience in current marching arts technology, including sound reinforcement systems, MIDI, sound design, microphones, and live audio engineering.
- Experience as a battery or front ensemble tech is required.
- Experience in the various subgroups of the unit is required.
- Experience in composing and choreographing routines for the various units is required.
- Experience working with school-aged students, preferably at the high school level.
- Experience with drill writing software is preferred.
- Valid Level I Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC).
- Percussion techniques.
- Audio engineering and sound design.
- Equipment maintenance and repair.
- Marching band auxiliary performance.
- Performing with a drums corps, university marching, or military organization.
- Instruction/adjudication of a drum corps or marching organization.
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Standing for extended periods of time.
Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom or gymnasium and outdoor stadium environment, including exposure to loud noise and being on your feet in extreme weather for long periods of time.
