Overview of the Role

The Junior Electrical and Instrumentation Technician will be a student actively engaged in a part-time role, gaining practical experience while supporting the maintenance and enhancement of utility systems. This position involves collaboration with experienced technicians, contributing to various tasks that include both documentation and hands-on fieldwork, all while developing essential skills in the electrical and instrumentation domain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of technical drawings and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in software installations and manage account administration tasks.
  • Engage in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of monitoring equipment and control systems.
  • Gain exposure to low and medium voltage power monitoring systems, control systems, and various instrumentation.
  • Support the installation and wiring of control systems under the guidance of seasoned technicians.
  • Learn and apply safe work practices, including Lockout Tagout procedures.
  • Contribute to the management of system restoration processes and updates to monitoring systems.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program, such as Industrial Maintenance Technology or Electrical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with electrical utility monitoring equipment and the use of diagnostic tools.
  • Understanding of safety protocols related to electrical work and construction environments.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, including blueprints and schematics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Basic mathematical skills for computations and analysis.

Additional Information
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to adhere to all safety and ethical guidelines.
  • Role involves both indoor and outdoor work, subject to varying weather conditions.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks that may include lifting and working in confined spaces.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $24.00 USD
