Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves semi-skilled tasks related to the management and upkeep of wastewater treatment facilities, specifically focusing on activated sludge processes and reclaimed water systems. The position entails training in the operational aspects of these facilities, with an emphasis on biological nutrient removal, while also supporting both preventive and corrective maintenance of various equipment and machinery. Additional responsibilities include maintaining the grounds of the wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities. Supervision is provided by the Chief Operator, Lead Operator, and/or shift operators, with performance assessed through observation and evaluation of outcomes.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage in training focused on the operation and control processes of an activated sludge wastewater treatment facility, ensuring proper functioning of control panels, machinery, and equipment. Assist in routine maintenance tasks, including lubrication, oil changes, and equipment repairs.
  • Conduct basic laboratory analyses, document findings, monitor recording charts and meters, and implement necessary adjustments. Collect wastewater samples as per the established schedule.
  • Foster effective working relationships with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Utilize computer systems for administrative tasks, demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Understanding of the principles and procedures related to wastewater treatment, pumping stations, and reclaimed water distribution.
  • Aware of safety hazards and precautions relevant to the work environment.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures.
  • Capable of following both verbal and written instructions. Completion of prerequisite coursework and successful attainment of the State of Florida Class 'C' Wastewater Operator Certification within one year of employment is mandatory.
  • Passage of a pre-employment general knowledge assessment is required.
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida driver's license is essential.


EQUIPMENT UTILIZED

A variety of tools and equipment will be used, including but not limited to hand tools, power tools, laboratory equipment, and safety gear.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and manual labor, including lifting objects up to 40 lbs. The role involves working in various environmental conditions, including exposure to chemicals, extreme weather, and confined spaces.



WORK ENVIRONMENT

Responsibilities will be carried out at various city-owned facilities and locations as needed.
