Job Summary:

As a Surveyor Specialist with the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of vulnerable populations in long-term care facilities. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct certification surveys, licensure inspections, or investigations in facilities to determine compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Complete inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies and prepare written reports supporting the actions and remedies recommended.
  • Visit facilities to verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations.
  • Conduct exit conferences with facility staff regarding findings and assist in developing a plan to correct deficiencies.
  • Communicate complex information with others, including facility staff, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Testify at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy/procedures, history, findings, or activities.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others.
  • Complete referrals for conduct, as appropriate.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of program regulations and procedures, and survey techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of acceptable professional standards of care.
  • Skilled in operating personal computers and software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with team members and others.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and reach sound decisions.
  • Ability to learn, remember, and integrate complex concepts, difficult procedures, or complicated processes.
  • Ability to use the computer for writing reports.
  • Ability to multitask and track multiple activities with competing priorities.
  • Ability to handle situations of high stress and conflict.
