Summary: The adjunct instructor will be tasked with delivering designated Chemistry courses for the upcoming semester. This position is specifically for on-site teaching roles at our Lone Tree Campus in Flagstaff. Course assignments may encompass various instructional formats, including hybrid or online classes, and may occur during daytime, evening, or weekend hours, potentially across multiple locations. The part-time faculty member is expected to collaborate effectively within a team setting. This role is temporary and does not include benefits, with employment contingent upon course availability each semester.

Position Overview

This role is focused on in-person instruction at our Lone Tree Campus in Flagstaff. Course assignments may include various delivery methods, such as hybrid or online formats, and may involve teaching during the day, evening, or weekends at different sites. The part-time faculty member must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. This is a temporary, non-benefits eligible position, with employment determined on a course-by-course basis.

Compensation: The hiring rate is $1,056 per load hour.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver assigned courses while adhering to established course outlines and learning objectives.
  • Develop and implement syllabi in line with college policies and course outlines.
  • Maintain and submit essential instructional records, including grades and attendance, according to the college calendar.
  • Notify supervisors in case of class absences and arrange for substitutes when possible.
  • Comply with all college policies and procedures, including those related to semester contracts.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries.
  • Utilize the Learning Management System (Canvas) as per college guidelines.
  • Regularly check and respond to college email communications.
  • Attend required college meetings, including orientation for new faculty and semester kickoff meetings.
  • Engage in student assessment and program evaluation as directed by the administration.
  • Stay updated on current practices, trends, and research in the discipline.
  • Participate in the college-wide assessment program.
  • Adhere to the same professional standards of conduct expected of full-time faculty.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Applicants must possess:
  • A Master's Degree (or higher) in Chemistry; OR
  • A Master's Degree with at least 18 graduate-level credits in the relevant discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and learning, with a commitment to student success. Experience in higher education teaching and working with diverse student populations is highly valued. Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) is also preferred.

Part-time employees working 20 hours or more per week for at least 20 weeks within the fiscal year may be eligible for participation in the Arizona State Retirement System and tuition waiver benefits.
