Description
The Juvenile Training and Transport Coordinator plays a crucial role in facilitating specialized training for juvenile personnel, ensuring compliance with state-required topics in certification courses. This position is responsible for the logistics of scheduling, preparing, and safely transporting juvenile detainees to various placement facilities. Additionally, the Coordinator manages medical, mental health, and dental appointments for juvenile detainees, ensuring they receive necessary care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Organizes training sessions for officers to guarantee that all personnel fulfill state standards and complete mandated courses; coordinates officer schedules for certification training.
2. Arranges defensive driving courses for officers and other County staff utilizing the National Safety Council curriculum.
3. Prepares and transports juvenile detainees to placements, TYC, and medical appointments while upholding safety and security protocols.
4. Maintains vehicle logs and oversees general maintenance for County vehicles.
5. Assists in implementing physical training programs for juveniles within the facility.
6. Provides orientation and training for new employees on Juvenile Probation Policies and Procedures.
7. Performs the duties of a Juvenile Supervision Officer as needed to ensure adequate staff-to-juvenile ratios in the facility.
8. Designs and develops innovative training programs.
9. Ensures regular and punctual attendance.
10. Executes other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two years of experience as a Juvenile Supervision Officer; equivalent education may substitute for experience.
2. Valid driver's license required; must obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days.
3. Certification as a Juvenile Supervision Officer; certified in CPR/First Aid; certified in Handle With Care.
4. Must meet the criteria outlined in Title 37, Chapters 343 & 344 of the Texas Administrative Code, including being of good moral character and at least 21 years of age.
5. Ability to pass a State Criminal History background check.
Additional Information
1. Must maintain driver's liability insurance.
2. Must conduct departmental training.
3. Flexibility in scheduling is required due to potential out-of-county transports.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
