Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Analyst Assistant to join our team at Duval County Public School. As a Financial Analyst Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and review of school and departmental budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist schools with preparing and balancing spring and fall budgets, meeting with and advising school and district administrators on budget development.
  • Review and process set ups, additions and deletions of positions, and set ups for payments for personnel working outside of their normal contract.
  • Assemble fiscal information for use in budget preparation.
  • Review documentation for completeness and conformity with directives.
  • Monitor expenditures and make recommendations for meeting budget targets.
  • Review cost coding for purchase requisitions and district expenditures.
  • Maintain files of applicable directives, procedures, policies, and budgetary documents.
  • Recommend procedures and assist in developing forms used in the budget process.
  • Compose correspondence and other office documents.
  • Answer inquiries for schools and/or departments and provide resolution for SAP issues, budget transfers, purchase requisitions, PCFs, FTEs, and year-end closing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Four (4) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in financial and budgetary analysis.
  • Experience with a large, complex organization such as a public school district or state department of education preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver's license may be required prior to appointment and, if required, must be maintained during employment in this class.
  • Promotional Requirements: Permanent employees who have served for two (2) years in the class of Budget Assistant may apply.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of budgeting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of school district budget practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of mathematics as used in budgeting to include statistics.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software skills.
  • Strong interviewing and data gathering skills.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Strong calculator, personal computer, and office equipment operation skills.
  • Ability to prepare and present comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to maintain applicable records.
  • Ability to develop forms and procedures.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply budget manuals and other financial related documents.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, administrators, principals, and the general public.
  • Ability to analyze fiscal and accounting audit records.
