Job Summary

The Director of Surgical Services is a clinical and administrative leader responsible for the management of the assigned nursing division. This position requires a strong understanding of patient care, human, fiscal, and material resources, as well as the ability to provide direction and leadership in the delivery of nursing care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides direction and leadership in the delivery of nursing care.
  • Assumes a leadership role in staffing and scheduling of personnel.
  • Supports a professional practice environment which fosters excellence in nursing practice.
  • Makes patient and staff rounds.
  • Fosters professional nurse empowered decision-making, accountability, and autonomy in nursing practice.
  • Acts as a resource regarding clinical, administrative aspects of patient care.
  • Provides mentoring, coaching, and counseling to staff.
  • Is a clinical expert.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for achieving goals and desired outcomes.
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with Clinical Coordinators and Nursing Educators.
  • Recognizes and attracts high potential talent.
  • Constructively and consistently deals with inappropriate employee behavior or actions.
  • Supports any environment that achieves employee satisfaction.
  • Participates in risk management and crisis intervention.
Requirements
  • Demonstrates knowledge and makes appropriate interpretation of nursing, medical, and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Provides, maintains, and coordinates effective communication between nursing and all other departments.
  • Maintains confidentiality while serving as a professional liaison with the community.
  • Functions as a mentor for development of nursing staff, encouraging professional growth.
  • Participates in professional continuing education programs.
  • Participates and assumes responsibilities on nursing committees, performance improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of JCAHO Standards and responsibility in compliance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of scheduling and maintaining accurate records.
  • Process the payroll in KRONOS for all departments as requested.
