Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Ellenville Regional Hospital. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will be responsible for operating radioscopic equipment to produce diagnostic scans and measuring concentrations of radioactive isotopes in specific body areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Radiopharmaceuticals: Properly prepare radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear medicine procedures as requested by physicians, calculating and administering the correct dose for each patient.
  • Select Technical Factors: Select technical factors based on pathology of an individual patient.
  • Operate Equipment: Effectively operate gamma cameras and other equipment, contacting the appropriate person when equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on the equipment as mandated by regulatory agencies and keep an accurate log of the checks performed.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement: Participate in performance improvement activities, quality improvement, and patient safety activities, assisting in maintaining compliance with NYSDOH accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards.
  • Support Hospital Policies: Support and uphold established hospital and department policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control, and codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure Equipment Availability: Ensure that equipment, supplies, and accessories are available as needed.
  • Transport Patients: Properly transport patients to Nuclear Medicine exam rooms and prepare and maintain rooms.
  • Provide Education: Effectively provide education and technical demonstrations to students, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals, assisting in orienting and mentoring staff.
  • Maintain Work Areas: Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 2 or more years of Nuclear Medicine Technologist experience.
  • Certifications: ARRT and/or NMTCB certified, AAS or BS preferred, and must maintain BLS certification.
  • Skills: Customer Service, Communication, Partnering, Problem-Solving.
