Job Title: Subject Matter Expert Linux System Administrator

Job Summary:

i3 is seeking a highly skilled Subject Matter Expert Linux System Administrator to join our team in support of the Engineering Research and Development Center Supercomputing Resource Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert-level technical support and guidance on Linux system administration, including operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert-level technical support and guidance on Linux system administration, including operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage and maintain enterprise VMware vSphere environments, including systems, storage, and network management.
  • Design and implement comprehensive virtual ecosystems for specialized projects, including high availability, data and systems protection, template creation and management, storage management, end user access, versioning, and all other aspects of virtualization.
  • Maintain hardware infrastructure supporting the Virtualization ecosystem, including SAN, NAS, network switches, and processing platforms.
  • Develop and implement systems backup and recovery methodologies.
  • Provide Systems Administration for Server systems supporting Web, Database, and various GOTS and COTS applications.
  • Coordinate hardware and software upgrades and installations with network and security teams.
  • Ensure compliance with established ERDC cybersecurity compliance standards for Linux and VM computing systems.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues affecting the infrastructure and apply field-proven methodologies to determine root cause and return services to expected levels.
  • Implement and ensure operations for DOD security controls such as Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIG) and Host Based Security Systems (HBSS).

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited University and 4 years relevant experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University and 8 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency with RHEL operating systems installation, maintenance, and support
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues relating to Linux system configuration and operations
  • Working knowledge of Linux Server operating system and proficiency with one or more shell environments
  • Experience with systems backup and recovery methodologies
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain a US Top Secret/SCI Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship
  • Knowledge of office administration and procedures
  • Exceptional judgment capabilities and relationship management skills
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and client service skills; ability to clearly communicate in discussions and written documents, and to deliver feedback clearly and tactfully

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Regular i3 hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
