- Collaborate closely with networking and security teams to ensure secure and efficient integration of the service mesh with existing infrastructure, addressing challenges and ensuring seamless operations.
- Work alongside Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to develop observability, monitoring, and alerting strategies for maintaining high availability and performance, defining service level objectives and indicators.
- Actively participate in the Istio community, contribute to open-source initiatives, and represent GEICO's leadership in service mesh implementation.
- Service Mesh Expertise: Profound understanding of mesh architecture, components, and configuration options, including advanced traffic management and security policies.
- Operational Experience: Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing service mesh solutions at scale, addressing performance, security, and observability challenges.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in Go or Python for extending and customizing service mesh functionalities.
- Linux OS Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of Linux operating systems, including performance optimization and security best practices.
- Networking Acumen: Advanced knowledge of networking concepts and tools for analyzing and enhancing service mesh performance.
- Kubernetes and Containerization: Extensive experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms, focusing on networking and security.
- Microservices Architecture: In-depth understanding of microservices design patterns and service discovery mechanisms.
- Observability and Monitoring: Expertise in tools such as Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring service mesh performance.
- Security Best Practices: Familiarity with zero-trust security principles and encryption technologies within service mesh contexts.
- Integration Knowledge: Understanding of network protocols and security policies for integrating service mesh with existing infrastructure.
- SRE Practices: Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering principles and their application to service mesh environments.
- Over 10 years of professional experience in software engineering or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience in designing and managing microservices architectures.
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with Istio and service mesh technologies.
- 3+ years of experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor fellow engineers.
$115,000 - $261,500.00
This salary range serves as a general guideline, with various factors influencing the final compensation, including role responsibilities, candidate experience, and market considerations.
