Role Overview:

The Senior Fire Safety Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting the Y-12 APMO Operations and Security oversight initiatives, focusing on fire protection within nuclear facilities. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of fire protection programs, ensuring compliance and performance standards are met effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter expert on fire protection for Y-12 APMO.
  • Assess and review the contractor's fire protection program implementation, including field evaluations and technical documentation.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and support to management and internal teams.
  • Conduct assessments as directed and recommend improvements to processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with M&O Contractors and engage in oversight activities as necessary.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with established Y-12 APMO standards.
  • Generate high-quality written reports with minimal revisions required.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution. A minimum of 10 years of experience in fire protection engineering is required, including at least 2 years in a senior role, preferably within a DOE/NRC regulated environment.

In-depth knowledge of fire protection principles, including:

  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes
  • Fire hazards analysis and risk assessments
  • Compliance with relevant fire protection standards

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with proficiency in computer applications relevant to the field.

Additional Information:

This position may require the ability to obtain government clearance and will involve background checks as part of the hiring process.
